Senegal is the closest seaside resort area to North America, it has a sun that shines almost all year round; its great and historic museums, its natural sites of great beauty, its natural parks and the reserves; its large rich fauna and flora, the warm welcome of its population resulting in the constant increase in the number of tourists each year interested with the discovery of the internal richness of the country, the encounter with the inhabitants, customs and habits of the local population and a real contact with its diverse culture. Although occupied and influenced by the French, Senegal has its own brand of exotic music, food and customs that give it the right dash of spice. Goreé Island, rich in history, is probably the area's favorite and most famous tourist attraction. One of the most frequently visited sites is the Maison des Esclaves (Slave House), a poignant reminder of Goreé's role as the center of West African slave trade. Built by the Dutch in 1776, the slave house has been preserved in its original state. Other points of interest include the Church, the picturesque ruins of Fort Nassau, Saint Michel (the Castle) and the Historical Museum in the old Fort Estrees. SALY is a small seaside village of 4000 inhabitants. It is know as the "SAINT TROPEZ" of SENEGAL ,The local people are friendly and cheerful. To enjoying your holidays the village has many nightclubs, restaurants, Banks, Casino, Internet cafés, and deep sea fishing. (the coast of Senegal is one of the most famous fishing area in the world). Pink Lake If you like nature’s quirks, you’ll love the Pink Lake in Senegal on the west coast of Africa. Known to the locals as Le Lac Rose or Lake Retba, this warm and shallow stretch of water gets its distinctive colouring from a high mineral concentration and the vast number of micro-organisms that inhabit it. The high salt content means that like the Dead Sea, everything floats- The lake, north-east of the Senegalese capital of Dakar, is also the last stage of the world-famous Paris-Dakar Rally. But it is its almost psychedelic colouring that really makes it worth a visit. It is one of those natural phenomena that needs to be seen to be believed. |
